MapleXO in the House

We are carrying a new designer, and we think she rocks. Lindsay Jo Holmes is taking discarded and broken skateboards bound for landfills, and turning them into jewelry. This is nothing other than RAD.

Small hoops and boyfriend rings

Skateboards are made from 7 ply maple wood. They are created to jump, grind, skid, slide; they are built to fly through the air, and hit the ground with a great CLACKing sound while carrying a 130 plus pound rider, (depending on age and size of course) basically  they are built to take a beating. What does this mean to you? It means that those rings on your finger and hoops in your ears are some durable strong ornamentation.

The sterling silver rings that hold and frame MapleXO’s board settings were designed by Connie Jan, a local jeweler in Portland, OR. The earrings are hung on sterling silver ear wire, and there is no extra paint or design added to the former decks, thereby creating one of a kind pieces.

Girl you gotta get some round rings

Wheel Earrings

These colorful earring are made from polyurethane- or translated: Wheels. They have a cool rubber feel. One employee calls them chewy. The best thing about these earrings, according to our employee who is in love with MapleXO, is how light they are. It is true they have no weight. If you have sensitive ear lobes these earrings are great.

Since all the original art is preserved along with the scratch and grind marks created by the skateboarder who had once loved the board, each and every piece is unique. The result is stunning, in the sense that all the preservation of graphics and function has resulted in belt buckles that look like  gallery art pieces.

These chrome edge belt buckles look like abstract expressionist art. The pink buckles could have been painted by the abstract expressionist Jane Frank.

Rad

We are carrying many new items. Right now we have the large and small hoop earrings, disk earrings, and the employee coveted, Wheel earrings. We also have bangles, the round girl rings, the boyfriend ring, and geometric necklaces, aptly named G Metric.

We got your boyfriend rings, What!

MapleXO is out of Portland, Oregon our home town and we are proud to have them in Presents of Mind. As a sidenote the writer of this post is particulary fond of MapleXO’s use of the word chatoyance in their product descriptions. That’s a word far better than bling, what!
