Fernworks necklaces are like little pieces of artwork hanging from your neck. They make a wonderful gift for the holidays, and anytime. You’ll find that Fernworks jewelry has many tried and true fans, and often times they know exactly what piece they want.

Bird and Vines

 Created and designed by Faryn Davis, each hand made individual piece captures a natural beauty in a resin casting, preserving and freezing the small often-unnoticed bits of the world around us.

Red fiber

Faryn Davis’s necklaces are either found objects painstakingly layered like these red strands of dyed fiber encased in resin or designs hand drawn in acrylic and ink on resin, layer-over-layer, as seen with the bird and vines three piece pendant. Each one is then hand cut, and polished then strung on smooth, nylon-coated, flexible steel wire with a pure silver lobster claw clasp.

Since each piece is handmade no two will be exactly a like. The design may be similar but each one will have a subtle uniqueness that will make it all your own.

The pieces are inspired by the world around us, and you cannot help, but to get a sense of wistful youthful peace when looking at her work; a painted red kite flying over the silhouette of a wire fence with wisps of real grass or a hand painted dandelion with bits of its white umbrella seeds floating to grant a wish.

Women’s hats, as we know them today, structured and with brims and hatbands, did not come about as a fashion accessory until the 16th century.

In fact, the word Milliner came from the 18th century and means hat maker. This word came from Milan since in the 18th century Milan made the best hats. If you were a superb hat maker than you could attain the title of Milliner (which used to be a profession for women).

Since the 16th century hats have gone through many transformations sometimes bringing back old styles or incorporating predominantly men’s styles into women’s hat designs. 

Women’s hats have been designed to look like helmets, ornate bonnets, and some of the craziest/creative hat designs can be seen at the Derby, and of course Lady Gaga’s next hat may be an airplane landing on a landing strip. We don’t have anything quite as “elegant” as that but we do have some pretty awesome hats.

We are happy to get the opportunity to offer you the latest from this amazing baby bag company. Each season offers a great selection of sophisticated and intriguing designs.

There is plenty of pocket space and a detachable changing pad. The exterior of the bags are Chenille, Brocade, felt, glazed and Italian Cut Velvet.

If you are curious about cleaning, Petunia recommends dry cleaning on a short cycle for the chenille and brocade bags like the Amaryllis Roll and the Earl Grey. The glazed and organic bags can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth. The scout bags are to be hand washed and lay flat to dry. The lining is to be spot cleaned with a damp cloth.

The detachable changing pad can also be hand washed and lay out flat to dry.

We started carrying the Sashay Satchels last season and we think the newest designs are lovely like the the Indelible Iris, and chic as in the Positively Plaid.

From 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hawthorne will be hosting a party for thousands of Portlanders, and out-of-towners.

There will be two stages with music for grown-ups of all ages. There will be puppets and magic shows for the kids, not to mention, the Bagdad theatre is showing Labyrinth for free and so much more!

Those of us born in the seventies and eighties caught the tale end of something that was considered a normal form of communication which is now considered a lost “art”. In fact, many of us born during those years probably stopped writing letters as we reached our teens, and other ways to communicate grew.

If you we’re born after the 90′s most likely you never considered sending a letter- why when e-mail is so much faster? Then with social networking- why even bother to complete a sentence or spell out a word?

What one of our grandparents would have guessed that the act of sitting down to write a letter to a friend or a loved one would be considered obsolete and unnecessary?

Don’t get us wrong we love technology. Without it we wouldn’t be able to write this blog post. And, e-mail and social networking has connected us to so many people, but there is nothing as special as recieving a letter in the mail.

Another employee said he remembered being a child and having a pen pal and how he would eagerly await the arrival of a new letter from a friend in Japan. “These were not short sentences that included OMG,” he said, “they were long and thought out and personally written for me”.

There is a kind of magic in receiving a letter now-a-days because life is busy and we all know how easy and quick it is to just climb onto Facebook and send a little thinking of you blurb- which is great, but we also know the time it takes to sit down and write a single letter to a person- with a pen! Now, that is some kind of thoughtful love.

This reverie over the art of writing letters and the joy of receiving them is the reason we have decided to put our stationary on sale for 25% off the retail price.
